El lugar es París en 1955. Guy es un crítico de cine de la revista "Cahiers du Cinéma", y un fanático del director italiano Vittorio Cottafavi, a quien considera muy superior a Michelangelo Antonioni. El lugar que frecuenta para ver películas es el Alcazar, un cine de barrio de París que pertenece a una pareja mayor con poco interés en el cine, y mucho interés en el dinero. Un día, el Alcazar recibe una visita inesperada: Es Jeanne, crítica de cine de la revista rival "Positif" ("Cahiers" y "Positif" eran en realidad las revistas de cine más importantes de la época), que - para disgusto de Guy - es una gran fan de Antonioni. Discuten acaloradamente por las películas, pero de alguna manera él se siente intrigado y atraído por ella...

This compact film is a nostalgic and hilarious portrait of cinephile movie-crazy France in the 1950's by director Luc Moullet, a director of mostly short comic films.

The setting is 1955 Paris. Guy, played to perfection by Olivier Maltinti, is a movie critic for the magazine "Cahiers du Cinéma" and is especially fond of Italian director Vittorio Cottafavi, whose work he considers far superior to Michelangelo Antonioni's films. The unlikely place he frequents to watch movies is the Alcazar, a small theater in a Parisian suburb, run by an elderly couple. But one day, a new regular visitor comes to the Alcazar. It's Jeanne, movie critic of the rival magazine "Positif” ("Cahiers" and "Positif" were actually the leading magazines in those days), who - to Guy's disgust - is a big fan of Antonioni. They quibble about movies but somehow he is intrigued by her...
