Vic y Melanie son una pareja aparentemente feliz y tienen una hija. Pero cada uno de los dos, a su manera, pervierte esta relación. Melanie se muestra abiertamente con sus amantes, mientras que Vic, que juega a ser un hombre moderno y sin prejuicios, sigue con interés las infidelidades de su esposa y le dice a cualquiera que quiera escucharlo que él mató a Malcolm, uno de los amantes de su mujer. Algunos interpretan semejante afirmación como cinismo, otros, como Joel y Ralph, le creen. Sólo Melanie y el joven Miller, recién llegado a la isla de Jersey, conocen la verdad...

Deep Water
Vic Allen appears to accept his young wife Melanie’s flirtations with men of her own age with a generous insouciance.  He amuses himself by scaring off her potential lovers by claiming that he killed one of their predecessors.   This only increases his wife’s antagonism towards him, but Vic loves her too much to let her go.  When Melanie’s next suitor is found dead in a swimming pool, she is convinced that her husband killed him, but she has no proof.  Their psychological battle of wills has only just begun...

 Jersey. Vic et Mélanie forment un couple heureux avec leur petite fille, Marion. Mais chacun pervertit à sa façon cet amour. Mélanie s'affiche ouvertement avec ses amants, tandis que Vic qui joue l'homme libéral, suit avec interêt les infidélités de son épouse et affirme à qui veut l'entendre qu'il a tué Malcolm, l'un des amants de sa femme. Certains prennent cette affirmation pour du cynisme, d'autres comme Joël et Ralph le croient. Seuls Mélanie et le jeune Miller, nouvellement arrivé dans l'île, connaissent la vérité...
